TUTORIALS
There are different ways to look for new content ideas with Keylogs. To start head over to the KeyXplorer section of your site. We are going to dive deep into your site’s data for this!
For a start please keep your timeframe set to 30 days. If you like to explore deeper you can alter it but please keep in mind that you’ll have to alter the filter settings accordingly.
Look for new content ideas
First let’s try to find some themes that you have most likely not covered with your content yet.
Click on “Content Ideas” > “Find New Ideas”
Keylogs will gather your keywords in topic sets and add up it’s numbers. You can explorer the sets in detail by clicking on them.
How to use this data:
Now sort the results descending by click count. We’re are now looking at queries that cause your website to show, but do not drive any traffic. These are queries that are not directly related to the content on your page and could therefore trigger new content ideas.
Do you see any pattern? Any related themes? Use the search field to narrow down keyword patterns. This is a very good place to start writing some new content that Google will most likely pick up easily.
Build on existing success
Now let’s check out the best content you already have.
Click on “Content Ideas” > “Augment Existing”
Again, Keylogs will gather your keywords in topic sets and add up it’s numbers. You can explorer the sets in detail by clicking on them.
How to use this data:
This is your absolute hit content and most likely you are looking at a lot of yellow numbers here. If you still have many results try to set the impression rate even higher.
Now check your Keywords and ask yourself if there is more to write for this specific topic? Users and Google already like your existing content – maybe you can extend it and write a whole series about it capturing different angles. If you discover such a topic and capture it well in your content, it’s a pretty sure bet it will greatly increase your traffic.
Develop rising opportunities
This is a similar approach to the first but instead of looking for low CTR we are now looking at high ones in moderate rankings.
Click on “Content Ideas” ( > “Develop Existing” )
Again, Keylogs will gather your keywords in topic sets and add up it’s numbers. You can explorer the sets in detail by clicking on them.
How to use this data:
We are now looking at queries that people seem to find interesting but it doesn’t rank good yet or in other words: a lot of unused potential! Look at the results and try to find similar keywords or patterns.
Try to find topics that are similar to your existing content but that you can cover better in a unique article. You might also find content that already targets the keyword but can be optimized to rank better.
Looking for content to revise or update
Not exactly new content ideas but while we are at it look for content that should be updated. Set the filter like this:
- Rank: first page
- CTR: < 2%
This is usually an indicator that your meta description and title are not appealing enough. Also, if the rank is gradually declining, try to revise your content, make some updates and renew your publish date.
